Permits will be issued Monday thru Friday during normal business hours.
Inspections will be scheduled Monday thru Thursday on a first come first serve basis.

Information Needed for Obtaining a Permit
- Appropriate permit form filled out completely (Name of owner, legal local address of owner, telephone number of contact person, and any other pertinent information)
- Appropriate fee
Information Required when Calling to Request an Inspection
- Permit number (with exception of property resale inspections)
- Name and address of the property to be inspected
- Directions if requested
- Confirmation that house numbers are on and visible from the road. Stick on numbers are not accepted, numbers and letters must be the nail on type. (For information on house numbering and road naming please see the "House Numbering" section of this web site.)
Town of Wellfleet General Bylaws Article XI section 10
If a property has a fire alarm system, fire protection system, or a medical alert alarm that transmits the alarm off the premises to a Central Station Alarm company, a lock box must be purchased thru the Fire Department and installed. A key to the front door of the property is needed to be placed inside the box at the time of installation.
As of March 31, 2006, per order of the Board of Health, all transfers or resale of property require that existing oil tanks be upgraded to double walled tanks.
Smoke and CO alarms are required to be inspected by the fire inspector prior to any sale of house property. Please see "Smoke Detector Information" below for details.

Smoke & Carbon Monoxide RequirementsNew Construction and Major Renovations
The most recent regulations for smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms as outlined above will apply. Construction plans must be submitted to the Wellfleet Building department with a fee of $35 and will be reviewed by the fire and building inspectors. The placement of smoke and CO alarms on the building plans is the responsibility of the individuals applying for the permit.

- Beach Fire Permits are only required between the third Saturday in June and Labor Day each year.
- Fires are only permitted between 6pm and 11pm.
- No Fireworks are permitted Per Massachusetts Fire Works Law MGL Chapter 148 S, 39.
- No accelerants are permitted.
- No pressure treated wood or wood containing nails may be used.
- No construction materials may be used.
- Fires must be built on the open beach sand and are not allowed in the vegetated areas nor at the base of the dune.
Fires are limited to the town owned land on the beach:
- Newcomb Hollow: 220 linear feet
- White Crest: 1600 Linear feet
- Maguire Landing at LeCount Hollow 51 linear feet- width of parking lot
- The area must be left clean of litter.
- Alcoholic beverages are prohibited on all Town Property. General By-Law Article VII, Section 19.
- Glass containers are not permitted on the beach.
- Fires must be extinguished with water and the ashes stirred before leaving the beach. DO NOT COVER THE HOT COALS WITH SAND.
- National Park Service regulations, State and Local Laws, By-Laws and Regulations are applicable on the town beaches.
Any violations of the guidelines will result in an initial fine of $50.00, any violation of the fireworks law will result in additional fines.

No Permits Will be Issued Before January 15!
Permits are required for the season and can be obtained at the fire department for $15.
